SECURITY MEASURES FOR TRAVELERS
Copyright 1994 by the American Association of Retired Persons.
Your home
1. Deter burglars by setting automatic timers to lights and
appliances - including a radio tuned into a talk or news station,
which will sound like a conversation inside your home.
2. Be sure to trim trees and shrubs near windows and doors, and
if you'll be gone for an extended period of time, make
arrangements to have your lawn moved.
3. Ask a friend or neighbor to pick up your newspaper and mail
on a regular basis, or have those services temporarily
discontinued.
Your hotel room
1. For a safe stay, reserve a room near an elevator, concierge
desk, office of other busy area.
2. Don't accept a room with a single lock or without a peephole.
Always use the deadbolt lock in addition to the regular door
lock.
3. When leaving your room, check to see that windows and sliding
glass doors are locked, especially if you're in a first-floor
room. Also, when you leave at night, turn on a light and leave
the television on.
Your Credit Cards
1. Be sure you've signed the back of your Credit Cards before
you leave for vacation.
2. Don't leave your card in your hotel room or even in a
suitcase. Either carry your card with you or put it in the hotel
safe.
3. Call your credit card company immediately if your card is
lost or stolen while traveling.
